Animation A
30 FPS frames shown per second
✳ A LITTLE MOTION MAGIC
What are frames per second?
Animation is made of pictures called frames. FPS tells us how many of those pictures are shown each second.
01 / EXPLORE
See the difference
Choose the FPS for each view, then watch the same video play in both.
Animation B
5 FPS frames shown per second
Original video
60 FPS frames shown per second
✦ Same speed, different number of pictures.
LOOK CLOSELY
Which one looks smoother?
Both views play the same video at the same speed. With more frames, you see more of the little movements along the way.
THE BIG IDEA
Pictures make motion
●●●●
Showing pictures one after another creates the illusion of movement.
Your screen and device can limit the frames you actually see. More FPS does not always make a visible difference.
✳ TAKE A CLOSER LOOK
One frame at a time.
Every video is a series of still pictures. Step through them to see how movement is made.
02 / FRAME BY FRAME
Meet the individual frames
Move backwards and forwards to see each small change.
Frame 1 of 12
Each picture is a little different. Play them in order and your eyes see motion!
